CGMW Commission for the Geological Map of the World

The Structural and Kinematic Map of the World presented as a contribution to the UN- International Year of Planet Earth and the author’s proposed project “Optimizing Earth Sciences for International Academia and the Public”. This educational map was designed to disseminate knowledge of the Earth’s plates mobility in the framework of or towards the International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE).

The Seismotectonic Map of the World is the result of a compilation of worldwide major seismic (historical and instrumental earthquakes) data spanning five millennia. These data have been plotted onto a continental and oceanic geostructural and neotectonic base map, together with data concerning plate kinematics, significant maximum horizontal stress orientations, and main active and recent volcanoes.
